New School Hall, Kings School, Plymouth

This project, undertaken on behalf of the school management company between April and October 2011 comprised the construction of a new two storey steel-framed building abutting two existing and operational school premises and in very close proximity to an operational crèche building.

An alternative entrance footpath was formed to segregate pupils and parents etc from construction activities, together with appropriate protective fencing and dust screens. Enabling works to divert existing underground electricity cabling, and existing overhead telephone cabling routed diagonally across site area were carried out to enable site clearance and bulk excavation for the construction of the new two storey facility.

This building, comprised structural steel portal framework with natural stone, timber cladding and painted rendered walls and aluminium standing seam roof upon isolated concrete pad and strip foundations with in-situ ground bearing ground floor and composite concrete first floor slab, together with link into the first floor of the existing building, all new associated drainage and mechanical and electrical services to form school hall, nursery and teaching areas and associated welfare facilities.

The installation of new services of natural gas, water, electricity, telephone, alarms, foul sewer and storm-water soak away installations included making connections to existing live pipework and subsequent testing and commissioning the new installations. In addition, the new fire/intruder alarms, telephone and data required connecting into the existing first floor of the operational school.

New hard and soft landscaping works were also undertaken.
